The forty-two foot Canadian canoe Spirit Dancer journeys further north in the British Isles to the isles of Shetland, a land much more Norse than English or Scottish. Out of generations of necessity brought on by unforgiving land and waters, harsh weather, and distance from central power and assistance, Shetlanders are hearty, self-sufficient and community oriented with an unusually strong sense of hospitality. This video showcases this human character as well as the rugged treeless beauty of heath-covered hills where the intricately carved shoreline of firths, voes and sounds renders no point of land more than six kilometers from the sea.
